Audi R8

The Audi R8 is a sports car with a longitudinally mounted mid-engine,and uses Audi’s trademark quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.It was introduced by the German automaker AUDI AG in 2006.

The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by AUDI AG’s high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is similar to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame,and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built around space frame principles. The car is built by quattro GmbH in a newly renovated factory at Audi’s ‘aluminium site’ at Neckarsulm in Germany.

In 2005, Audi announced that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, and 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There was some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the 24 hours of Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype (LMP). 6-time 24 hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as “the best handling road car today”.

The Audi R8 is used as a safety car in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and British Superbike Championship racing series.

Although media focus has shifted to its smaller Q5 crossover, Audi hasn’t forgotten about the larger Q7.
For 2010, the Q7 gets a mid-cycle refresh that includes updated exterior styling and a new version of Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) system, which controls the Q7′s information and entertainment features when you opt for the navigation system.

The Q7 comes in several trims, the Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. These come with several powertrain options — the turbodiesel-powered TDI, V6 and V8 engines. All models come standard with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

If you’re a fan of the Q7′s physical form, you’ll be elated to know the crossover’s shape doesn’t change for 2010. Exterior changes are limited, with the largest revision being revised front and rear bumper skins. Others, notably the new grille insert and LED daytime running lamps, help bring the Q7 in line with the company’s current design ethic.
A similar design mantra was applied to the Q7′s interior. Most of the cabin is virtually identical to the previous model, but a few small touches (i.e. more chrome switchgear, ambient lighting in the doors, wood inlay on the passenger-side dashboard) adds an upscale aura.

Perhaps the most important feature inside is Audi’s new third-generation Multimedia Interface, or MMI. The infotainment system uses Audi’s latest form of 3D navigation, and a new joystick control for navigating through menus, maps, and the like. Users can also control the MMI through a revised vocal command system, which responds to personal statements like “I’m hungry” or “I need gas” by searching for restaurants or gas stations nearby. It can also be paired to a 14-speaker, 505-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system, similar to those offered in other Audis.

Audi has unveiled the 2012 Audi A7 at the 2011 New York Auto Show that is bound to impress quite a few. The 2012 Audi A7 will be powered by a 3.0 liter TFSI V6 supercharged engine capable of churning out 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.

“The all-new Audi A7 takes cues from high art, with dramatic stylings and bold features. A symbol of Audi’s craftsmanship, the sedan will join the ranks of icons in design and technology.” stated Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer, Audi of America.

Mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and with standard quattro all-wheel drive, Audi A7’s V6 is touted to have fuel economy ratings of 18 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and a combined rating of 22 mpg.

“A7 is the perfect marriage of progressive design and sophisticated engineering.” boasted Audi.

The A7 gets a 5-door coupe design that incorporates the aluminum-hybrid lightweight construction with aluminum body panels and a steel frame. The vehicle has a 4-seat configuration with folding rear seats, Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, characteristic Audi Singleframe® grill and frameless side windows.

Standard features include18-inch wheels with all-season tires, leather seating surfaces, power, heated front seats with driver lumbar support, automatic power tailgate, Audi drive select, Keyless go, power sunroof, 3-zone automatic climate control as well as automatic headlights with light/rain sensor. In addition, the 2012 A7 will have SIRIUS satellite radio, Audi Music Interface, Bluetooth telephone and music player connection and Homelink.

Additional features are offered in Premium Plus and Prestige packages. The forthcoming Audi A7 will also have Innovation Package, Sport Packages, Driver Assistance Package as well as Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System.

Meanwhile, the 2012 Audi A7 is expected to hit U.S. showrooms in limited numbers in May with a starting price of $59,250 excluding destination charge.

Rupert Stadler, The CEO of Audi told Automotive News Europe that the Audi A6 Hybrid would be ready in Europe at the end of 2011, but it won’t be in America till 2013.

An Audi A1 quattro prototype currently undergoing baptism grappling with freezing conditions on Canada’s densely snow-packed roads. Audi wants to make sure every model is offered with the quattro system and testing has begun on a quattro-equipped A1.

The Audi A1 quattro is packed with technology akin to its TT and A3 siblings. The prototype’s Quattro setup follows the time-tested recipe. Under normal circumstances, the car sends most — if not all — its power to the front wheels. After you’ve plunked down £77,730 for the basic car, then chosen the colour and put on a few extras, there is one decision left to agonise over.  Should you opt for a speed limiter which cuts off the power at 155 mph, or should you let it zoom on to 175 mph before the computer does a Roberto Duran and says “No Mas”.

Americans will be spared this dilemma because Audi has decided that the RS 6 Avant, the most powerful production estate car in the world, will not be available in the U.S. The numbers likely to be sold do not justify the expensive process of meeting U.S. regulations. That, and the fact that the high value of the euro against the dollar makes it all but impossible for German manufacturers to make a profit on anything sold in America.

The four-wheel drive RS 6 has a 5.2 litre 572 bhp V10 engine boosted by two turbo chargers which uses a direct injection petrol system. The power is split 40:60 front to rear. This gives this understated-looking load-lugger amazing acceleration, on a par with low-slung Italian two-seaters. The RS 6 blasts from rest to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, and could power on to 175 mph, if you are in a part of Germany which still has no speed limit. (You could ask me if I discovered whether the version I was driving was limited to 155 or 175, but I’m afraid I couldn’t possibly comment). The engine is based on a motor used in the Lamborghini Gallardo. Volkswagen of Germany owns Audi, which in turn owns Italy’s Lamborghini.

Audi’s R8 supercar has caused quite a stir with its V8 and V10 gas variants, but Audi thought it would change things around by adding a V12 diesel into the mix for good measure. This R8 concept car deviates wildly from traditional gas-powered sports cars, but with a race-proven turbocharged diesel it might be one of the most promising exotic concept cars ever created.

Power for the concept comes from the automakers race-derived 6.0 liter V12 diesel motor, which was first used in the R10 Le Mans competition car, and is now available in the Audi Q7. The engine produces 500 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The peak torque, reached at only 1,750 rpm.
